Gorumara National Park

Presently GORUMARA NATIONAL PARK, was once a reserve forest since 1885, further was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1949 and was again declared a National park on 31st JAN 1994.
Physically, the park is located in the flood plain of western Dooars, in the district of Jalpaiguri and in the state of West Bengal and surely comes within the picturesque Eastern Himalaya. It’s a watershed area in-between Ganges and Brahmaputra River, touching CHAPRAMARI WILDLIFE RESERVE, NEORA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK and JALDAPARA NATIONAL PARK. The location permits tourist to access NEPAL, BHUTAN, BANGLADESH and CHINA within a drive of three hours.
GORUMARA NATIONAL PARK is surrounded by some ethnic villages and many of them got involved in the business of Ecotourism and departmental activities of the local forest administration. Forest villagers of South Dhupjora Wildlife area and villagers of Lataguri territorial area have earned their reputation as tourist-friendly peoples.
The rich biodiversity of the GORUMARA NATIONAL PARK attracts tourist from different parts of the globe, which falls in the Indomalaya Ecozone and Biomes are the tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands and tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests.
The Flora includes Sal, Teak, Raintree, Bombax, the verity of Bamboo groves, Terai vegetation, and Tropical Riverian Reeds.
The park is rich in its Fauna content, which includes 50 species of Mammals, 264 species of common, rare and rarest of the rare birds, 22 species of reptiles, 7 species of Turtles, 27 species of fish and other micro and Macrofauna.
Indian rhinoceros, Indian gaur, Asian elephant, Sloth bear, Chital, Sambar deer, Barking deer, Hog deer, Wild boar, Leopard, Royal Bengal tigers, Indian wild dogs, Wild boar, Pygmy hog, Giant squirrels and Hispid hare are the eminent mammals nestled in the park.
Verity of Sub Montane forest birds, Asian paradise flycatchers, Spangled Durango, Indian hornbill, numerous verity of Woodpeckers, Pheasants, Peafowls and verity of migratory birds during the winter are the rich content for the bird watchers, from around the globe.
The park is also a home for venomous and non-venomous snakes in numbers, including Indian Rock Python and King Cobra- The world’s largest Venomous Snake.
Presently, the park is least threatened by poaching activities, with well-equipped monitoring and surveillance from the joint action of, forest department, State Police, and Paramilitary forces.

Nearest Railway station- New Jalpaiguri (NJP). 8 to 10 hours from Kolkata and less than 24 hours from Delhi. New Jalpaiguri Railway station to Resort Gorumara Nest - 1.5 hours and 70 KMs.
